 Secondhand smoke is smoke which fills enclosed spaces as people smoke tobacco products like cigarettes, bidis, and . People standing or sitting next to others smoking are exposed to secondhand smoke, which comes from the burning end of tobacco products or is exhaled from people smoking. E-cigarettes also expose non-smokers to secondhand aerosols (not secondhand smoke), which contain harmful chemicals.  Nicotine and other chemicals from tobacco smoke are readily absorbed in the bloodstream via the lungs. Smoking tobacco not only puts nicotine, but also over 5,000 chemicals, including many carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals), into your lungs, blood, and organs.
